character personality
[/size]secrets , James was homeless until he met the Burtons. He told his parents that he wasn’t going to college and then he was kicked out with absolutely nothing. With no plans he traveled from his home in Norwich, CT and made his way to Miami. One day at a sports event he bumped into Alexander Burton and they became fast friends. At first he hid the fact that he had no place to call his own, but Alexander wasn’t stupid and knew that only cartoon characters could live in the same pair of clothes. Soon enough he was given a place to stay with anything he needed in the mansion as long as he didn’t enter the East Wing—a section of the house that was left completely alone for Mackenzie, even though that part was never explained to him.
pet peeves , bad lighting, babies that cry for hours, fingerprints on his glasses, continuous pen clicking.
three ways to win James's heart , Get to know him, make him smile, be honest.
likes , swimming, pictures, Photoshop, newspapers, critical thinking, being with friends, making movies, pizza, sunsets, sunrise, brisk mornings, thinking of New England, coffee, breakfast, sleeping, the occasional drink and party, late night drives, drive in movies, music, going to concerts, and the idea of falling in love
dislikes , hangovers, tofu, missing a deadline, starbucks—America runs on Dunkin for a reason, girls that cheat, paying for gas, having an empty wallet, his parents disapproval, thinking about the months he was homeless, cheesy horror movies, lying, drugs, and excessive tattoos and piercings.
strengths , being honest, good with kids and pets, keeps a secret, is well rounded, makes friends easily.
weaknesses , has no idea how to handle girls, is shy, doesn’t speak up as much as he should
personality traits ,
SMART-James has always been a smart kid. He was the kid that had his homework done in advance. He graduated #3 in his class and got along with pretty much everyone. However, college was never part of his game plan. He wanted to live and work and be in the field instead of just sit and learn about it. When he got kicked out of his house, he became street smart. He had been picked up from friends to get him a little farther on his journey to Miami but from D.C. on, he was flying solo. James learned that being brainy wouldn’t cut it anymore. The people living on the streets were tough, and could care less where you came from.
DETERMINED-Along the way down the East Coast, James learned just how determined he was. He got texts from his family telling him to come back and that what he was doing was crazy but he wanted to do this. This wasn’t some idea he was toying around with. He was on the road and making it on his own. He would find odd jobs for extra cash and bought maps to make the most effective route to Miami. Now that he’s here James is going to make the most of it.
ROMANTIC-James is a big believer in love at first sight, and the one. He feels that once you see the girl, you’ll know it. There’ll be some divine spark that will just stick for the rest of your life. It’s not that James won’t hold a relationship or have a fling, because he will, but there’s a definite difference in the feeling between the two. James may get a little confused between love and lust at times, but when it comes to real love-things are different.
TRUSTING-James is a trusting guy, and some say he’s naïve. When Alexander said, “come with me, I’ll give you a place to stay”, James just followed along. He never stopped to question him, for all James knew he was headed to a crack house on the other side of town. Luckily, that didn’t happen, but he still just followed along blindly. James has always been a trusting guy. You’re always innocent until proven guilty with him.
GOOFBALL-Once James finds that he’s comfortable with you, or can make a connection with you, he settles in. He is a complete goofball and loves to laugh at life and himself. James is the one that will make funny faces when you’re crying, press his face against the glass, and cracks jokes in dead silence. Of course, his humor tends to be dry from his New England background, but he has no doubt about fitting in the Miami scene.
AWKWARD-James has a daring side. He may be quiet and reserved and focused on finding love but he is attracted to girls with sex appeal. He has no idea how to handle women so he can come off as a jerk. He becomes blunt and just spits out things that are on his mind. In public places that he’s unfamiliar with sticks out like a sore thumb. He’s usually under dressed or over dressed and stays quiet and to himself.

in depth history ,
Andrew and Jeanne had met through friends and had been married a few years before they decided to settle down in Connecticut and have a baby. They were never in any sort of debt or state of panic and life for the Hopkins was average, and good. Originally, they considered not having children so they could travel the world, but plans always change. Eventually, baby James William Hopkins was born into the world. James was everything his parents dreamed of. He was curious, quiet, and obedient. They dreamed constantly of what he would grow up to be, what his personality would be like, and etc. Andrew was a wonderful father that spent his afternoon’s home playing catch, teaching him how to ride a bike, how to rollerblade, and minor life lessons. Jeanne took her to school with him for early socialization, spent time doing arts and crafts at home, and cherishing James interest in learning. There was never a moment that The Hopkins doubted their love for their child and they showed him to friends as if he was a trophy.
As James grew and went through the public school system he always made high honors and made his parents proud. He was the kid in class that was brainy but still had friends and remained humble through his success academically and in sports. His parents were exuberant that they had raised a child that was so well rounded, a child that had a truly bright future ahead of him.
James had his own expectations for life though. He didn’t want to become a doctor or dentist or lawyer like his parents wanted. He didn’t want to try to further his sports career so he could go to the Olympics or anything. James lived behind his camera lens. He videoed anything and everything and took his camera along to snap pictures of the New England he had grown up in. His intent was never to go to college. He was restless; he was tired of the busy work he was given in the classroom. James was given countless offers but didn’t have the heart to follow any of them.
When James broke the news to his parents that he had no desire to go to college, things went downhill fast. Jeanne wanted to reason through things with her son but Andrew wanted no part in any of it. Andrew told James that he had to go, and he wasn’t coming back until he had his head on straight.
Kicked out and left with nothing but his camera James spend countless nights wandering the streets at night looking for a place to stay. It wasn’t until one night on a park bench James realized, he needed a change, and off to Miami he went. The journey was hard for quite some time. It wasn’t until James met Alexander Burton that life really started to take a turn for the better. Alexander had become his friend and given him everything he needed with no time constraint.

Jesse. That was a pretty name, now if her name was Fran he would have to run. Ryan once knew a girl named Fran--turns out she was a possessive pyscho creep with pictures of him everywhere. As much as he liked the attention that was a bad rep right there. Suicide in the making. He sighed slightly as he remembered that horrible memory. A shiver ran up his spine too. His parents always did say she was a bad egg. And that was just the half of it. Funny to believe his parents would say the words "bad egg" when he went out and got high all the time. Definately made you wonder huh?
"Well Jesse with no last name its nice to meet you. I am Bur--" he began, before he coughed that is. "Ryan Burto--" he said coughing again. "Names Ryan. Good to meet you. Now is that hot tall guy going to come so i can beat the pulp out of him or am i safe? One can never be so sure." he said rubbing his nose. He watched her carefully. And her chest--why lie? It was nice to look at. However Ryan was so stealthy you would never know.
He looked at her again and her nails--acrylic. Girls now a days. What was wrong with their normal nails? He wasn't running out to get any acrylics on--but his hands were really nice when you stopped to think about it. For a guy Ryan had soft hands. He was one to believe in lotion. Personally he didn’t want to have these disgusting ashy hands so people could show him up all the time. Now that wouldn't be very Ryan like of him. If he wasn't in the limelight--well there was something wrong. But its not that he asked for the spotlight all the time, its just that it had always been given to him. Even as a kid. Could you really blame him for it?
Ryan looked over at Jesse again and smiled. He really shouldn’t be anywhere near her but the danger made him want it more. The Burtons and Collins had a long standing rivalry that dated back to their great-great-grandparents. Being seen with a Collins was like asking for a truck to run you down. As he started to pace back and forth he became worried that someone would see him with her.
