in depth history ,Morgan and Leo weren’t high school or college sweethearts. No, these two met at a charity event for something neither of them could even recall the name of. Morgan Amson was a gorgeous twenty-three year old with a eyes and lips that would break any guy’s heart. Leo Montgomery was a sweet talking, handsome twenty-five year old with a bad habit of dating around and hooking up with younger women. Who would have thought that these two would end up making the perfect couple? Even though Morgan came with someone else, the second that Leo walked over and ordered her a drink, everything changed.
At first it was all pretty innocent, just some flirting, testing each other. Soon they found that they had both met their match. Morgan had no idea what it was like to be jealous of someone until Leo started flirting with another girl while they were together. Leo had no idea what it was like to have his ego tested until Morgan danced with another man. After a few months of back and forth and driving each other completely insane, they started really dating, something that neither of them had done on anything more than a casual basis before. It was a difficult adjustment at first, but the two were unknowingly already in love, and soon all of the time that they had spent making each other jealous was dedicated to making it up to the other. They had turned into the fairytale couple. He was almost like royalty with a father that owned and controlled a multi-billion dollar corporation that Leo was slowly learning the ropes to, and Morgan was simply his princess. Even so, when Leo proposed to her two years after they first started dating, everyone was shocked. And they were more shocked them they found out that Morgan’s answer had been yes.
Their wedding took place about six months later, at the beginning of spring. It was a gorgeous ceremony, and the bride looked more stunning than she ever had in her life. The two were truly in love, but it was better than a fairytale. Leo and Morgan moved from their penthouse apartment to a larger, tropical beach house. Neither of them were in a rush to start a family and enjoyed their time together, just the two of them. Not too long after Leo went to work for his father’s company, Morgan got pregnant with their first child. Nine months later, late on a warm summer day, Rebecca Montgomery was brought into the world.
Morgan’s perfect life was suddenly full of chaos. She loved her baby girl more than she ever knew she could, but Morgan had always been spoiled and things had some easily for her. Being a mother didn’t come as naturally as everyone had promised it would. Leo was around for her as much as possible, but he had become the face of the company, and every time they had a meeting or a press conference, he was the one talking to the people, making women all over the country faint with his signature killer smile that he ended every press public appearance with. If the company tried to expand or find new partners, Leo had to be there. He liked his job. He found it fun. Mostly it was what he did all the time anyway, which was sweet talk people into seeing things his way. But the separation was hard on Morgan. Even though he was only gone for two days of the week most of the time, three at the most, she struggled to take care of her child. It was exhausting. Rebecca was a beautiful baby, but she cried almost constantly, and Morgan couldn’t figure out how to make her stop. If she wasn’t hungry and didn’t have gas and didn’t need her diaper changed, why was she crying? Leo eventually got a nanny to help Morgan out at home, and things calmed down quickly. The nanny gave her pointers, and by the time Rebecca was approaching her first birthday, Morgan could take care of her on her own. Leo was home more, too. The company was thriving, and his dad took care of most of the work.
Morgan and Leo loved watching their little girl grow up. They figured out the parenting thing and made play dates. Rebecca went to a swanky preschool and got into a prestigious grade school. Most people couldn’t believe that Morgan was a mom. She was still just as gorgeous as she had been when Leo first met her. It wasn’t until Rebecca was five years old that Morgan got pregnant for the second time, and the next winter she gave birth to a little boy that she and Leo named Anthony, after his grandfather. Leo was much quieter than his older sister, and Morgan found it easier to take care of him, even though she had a five year old running around as well.
As lovely as their house on the beach was, the family decided it would be better to relocate. They moved a bit farther inland to a still gorgeous house with five bedrooms and plenty of room in the backyard for the kids to play in addition to a pool with a little water slide. Rebecca was thrilled about the move, and it gave the family more space to raise their children, something that their house on the beach had not with the addition of their second child.
Morgan got pregnant again just after Anthony had his first birthday. She was happy, but overwhelmed at the same time. She never expected to have three children. She thought one, two at the most. She knew she loved her kids more than anything in the world, but it was still so much to handle. Fortunately for her, Leo was a great father. He always knew how to make the kids smile and brought them home treats and rewards. Rebecca was a smart little girl, and she liked helping Morgan take care of the baby. Rebecca was excited when she found out she was going to have another little brother or sister. Morgan and Leo both found that reassuring. Morgan’s due date for this baby was Christmas Eve, but it seemed that nature had other plans, because Morgan’s contractions started late on December 22, and by six o’clock on the 23, Jennifer Noelle was born into the world.
Almost from the moment that Jenny came into the world, she was smiling. She was the best Christmas present the family had ever received. She was a well behaved baby. She didn’t cry much, and she slept through the night. Rebecca thought of Jenny as her doll, and she would carry her around the house and loved helping Morgan take care of her new baby sister. Every night, Rebecca would run into the nursery and give her little brother and little sister a kiss on the forehead and say goodnight to them.
Leo and Morgan knew that their family was complete. Rebecca had plenty of friends at school and she loved taking care of her little siblings, who both seemed to be growing too quickly to keep track of. Before they knew it, one year old Jennifer was starting to talk and toddling along. They could tell she was an exceptionally smart baby. She and her brother would play games, but soon it was time for him to go off to school, and Jenny was left with her mother and play dates with new children at the park or a neighbor’s house. Soon they put her into the same swanky preschool that her brother and sister had gotten into. She did well there. She found it pretty easy to make new friends, and her teachers were always gushing about how much of a joy she was to have in class, always smiling and catching onto new concepts quickly. She was the kind of little girl that would always share her toy if you asked.
It was around that time the family really began to take trips together. It seemed like every other weekend the family was doing something fun. They went to shows, went horseback riding, went to visit family and friends. Rebecca was getting to that age where she was beginning to grow apart from her family, and Leo and Morgan didn’t want that to happen. Rebecca and Morgan would spend afternoons together making cookies for Rebecca to bring to school and give to her friends, and the house was often filled with the sounds of young girls running around. Anthony decided he wanted to join soccer, so his parents put him on a all boys soccer team. They decided that Jenny should do something as well, so she had a brief stint at T-ball that ended when she accidentally got hit in the head with the ball.
Soon Jenny in kindergarten, and all of the Montgomery children were briefly in the same school.. This only lasted a year before Rebecca moved onto high school, but it always made Jenny happy to see her older sister in the hallways.
Jenny was a bright little girl. She caught onto reading and adding quickly, and she was always the girl that got a gold star by her name on the chart and a smiley face on her paper. Her parents were thrilled with her progress. Jenny was good at making new friends, and she was so easy to get along with that soon she had lots of people inviting her to birthday parties and sleepovers. She got her first ‘boyfriend’ when she was in third grade, though it only lasted about a day. Overall, Jenny had a pretty happy childhood.
Then, one day, everything came crashing down around them. Anthony was at a sleepover and there was an emergency, so Leo had to go pick him up. It was late on a Friday night, and on their way home they got hit by a drunk driver. Anthony was killed at the scene, and they rushed Leo to the hospital.. They called Morgan and told her what had happened, and she rushed Rebecca and Jennifer to the hospital. By the time they got there, Leo was surviving off of life support, and they only got the chance to say goodbye. At eight years old, Jenny wasn’t really sure what was going on, but she soon realized that her father and brother weren’t going to be around anymore. It was a very difficult time for the whole family. All of the sudden, the perfect life that they had built no longer existed. They had lost Leo and Anthony in one night.
It was more than Morgan could take. She didn’t know how to handle the pain. The family was left with a large amount of money from Leo’s will, each person getting their own share. Anthony’s was divided among the family, and they continued to live, but Morgan was a broken woman. She never left the house, barely moved or ate. She didn’t like talking to anyone. Rebecca drove Jennifer to and from school and ended up taking her little sister under her wing. Soon Rebecca was getting ready to go to college, but Morgan had never recovered. By the time Jenny turned nine, her mother had turned to drugs. She was trying out everything from pot to meth. She was soon hooked on meth and needed an almost constant supply. Rebecca knew it was wrong, but she couldn’t wait to get out of the house.
All of Morgan’s money went to drugs, and soon she had run out. Rebecca had begun to hate her mother. Instead of being there for her children, she had broken down. Instead of leaning on each other she had abandoned them. Rebecca left to go to college in Northern Florida, leaving her younger sister and her mother behind.
Jenny’s life changed in an instant. Her mother could no longer afford to send her to her school, so she was tossed into public school with the rest of the kids. Even though Jenny could still make friends, she had a hard time getting along with new people. She was scared about her new life and didn’t want to get attached to anyone. Her old friends tried to contact her sometimes, but it didn’t take long for the calls and messages to stop coming in. Her mother had to get a job to feed her addiction, since she had run out of money, and soon she was cleaning houses. Morgan ended up marrying Trevor., her drug dealer, when Jenny was eleven. He wasn’t a good guy, but he could provide a slightly better house for them and feed her addiction.
Jennifer was scared with all of the changes happening around her. She didn’t know what was going on or what was going to happen next. Part of her was mad at Rebecca for leaving her, but she had promised that she would come back for her one day and get her out of there. When Rebecca came back to visit for Christmas, she realized just how bad a situation Morgan had put Jennifer in, and she swore that she was going to do everything in her power to help her little sister.
The abuse didn’t start until a few months after Morgan and Jennifer had moved in with Trevor. He slapped her one time when she didn’t clear the table as fast as he wanted her to. Morgan stood up for her daughter then, but he continued slapping her, hitting her, shoving her around, and soon Morgan wasn’t speaking up for her anymore. That wasn’t the worst of it, though. The physical abuse was nothing compared to the first night that Trevor snuck into her room and began to touch her under her pajamas. Jennifer was scared to death, too afraid to move, too afraid to cry. As soon as he left, she burst into tears, but she couldn’t sleep the rest of the night. She hoped that it was a one time thing, but it wasn’t. Jenny was too afraid to tell Rebecca, and she knew that telling her mother wouldn’t make a difference. If she tried to fight back, she’d either get hurt more or kicked out of the house. On several occasions she was kicked out of the house and forced to wander the streets and find a park bench to sleep on for the night or the backyard of a friend’s house and crash on a lawn chair. It wasn’t the life she imagined living at eleven years old. Still, staying at home was almost as bad.
The abuse went on for two years before Rebecca finally came home and got her out of that hell. She sued her mother for custody of Jennifer at only twenty-one years old. It didn’t take long for them to deem Morgan unfit. They sent her to rehab, but she quickly dropped out and went back to living with Trevor.
Rebecca used her money to get a nice little house in Miami for the two of them to share and open her own café. Jennifer was much happier living with her sister than she had been in years. She felt safe for the first time in what was almost longer than she could remember.
Soon she was in high school, and it was suddenly easy to make friends again. She always wore a smile on her face because she knew that things were better than they had been, and they were going to keep getting better. She made friends quickly, and even though she was in public school she seemed to get along just fine. Things were good again, although a different kind of good. She managed to keep her troubled past in the back of her mind for the most part and look for the good in people and situations. Freshman year went by quickly, most of her time dedicated to school work and helping Rebecca out with the café. She knew that Rebecca was using the recipes that she and Morgan had used when they were growing up, and although the café was slow to start, it was a hit with those that tried it. She knew that Rebecca missed the mother that she had grown up with. She knew that Rebecca was trying in her own way, but Morgan was still too caught up in the drugs to see any of it.
Sophomore year was much of the time, although Rebecca was running out of money. The café was doing okay, but it was only breaking even, enough to cover the costs of running the place, but not making any money of it. She put a chunk of money into advertising, which brought in quite a few more customers. It was sophomore year when she started working as a waitress for the café. She loved the place. It was like her second home. It was cozy and pretty and it always smelled like coffee and cookies. Her friends would often hang out there because they got free coffee. Now the café was making them a little bit of money, but they were going to have to cut back on a few things until Jenny turned eighteen and got her share of her father’s money.
Junior year rolled around and Jenny is still very friendly. She takes part in quite a few Honors and AP classes and gets along with most of the people at her school. She is passively looking for love, although mostly she just hopes that it will find her. She is working hard in her studies so that she can go to school and become a social worker to make sure kids never have to go through the things that she went through. Most of her time is either spent taking pictures, working on homework, or at the café. She likes meeting new people and is always the light of the day for the people that come into the café during the afternoon. She still hopes that her mother will decide to go to rehab, and she and Rebecca still go to visit her sometimes, although never in that house. She wants to help her mom, but she doesn’t know how.
