Landon must have been furious. Kona tried to picture his face, but she could hardly remember the color of his eyes. She had reached a secretary from knowing Landon's personal office number. Kona remembered screaming into the pay phone from the police station. The conversation had apparently escalated to a volume loud enough that Landon's personal assistant stepped in to take Kona's call. The new office management hadn't been briefed on what to do if aMiss Cress called the office.
That was about all she could remember of her one phone call. Thinking back further, she remembered walking into the studio space. There was a musty smell and a faux fog from some party store fog machine. Kona was the only girl not already dressed in a costume. After Oliver told her this probably wasn't the best idea, she had gone back to the .html website with glittering text and Word Art. She still wanted to go. Partly to stick it to Oliver, to be right. Partly to save the whales, and partly to get away. She waited in line while one of the girls preformed her routine. That was when she heard the sirens, though she thought nothing of it until the judges started gathering their things. She attempted to run too, but she was caught by an officer.
He took her by her upper arm and she started to wrestle around. He didn't like that and she proceed to push her luck. She took a swing, and as usual, she hit her mark. The officer pushed her onto the ground, and Kona proceeded to wrestle the officer. Her adrenaline rush kicked in when she had escaped the officer. She raced down the apartment stairs and tore through the front door. She heard someone behind her, but she didn't look back. She threw her hood up and tried to keep them from getting a good enough look at her face. However, Kona once again underestimated the local police department. She had just made it over a fence when she heard a dog. She made it about three more blocks before the canine assisted police officer found her.
A bit of a scene, but Kona was half afraid and half reckless. What if they placed her in with her former gang ties? Would Landon care? That was her driving force. She was as boisterous and obnoxious as she could be, because the bigger the charger against her, the sooner daddy would come. She hadn't really meant for all of this to happen from trying to save whales. She probably wouldn't have been in trouble because she was the victim of a scam, but she was sure in the back of her mind she knew from the second she heard the police coming it was a chance to see Landon. Unfortunately, all she saw was a bulky young man in a suit. The charges were being dropped and her named deleted from all records and documents of the incident, but Landon didn't show.
Staring out of the pent house window, Kona's mind wasn't even concerned with the possibilities of almost being raped or kidnapped. She was pissed her dad hadn't come. Perhaps she'd have to commit murder for Landon to acknowledge her first hand. She knew the office had handled her bail in order to keep Landon's name clean. Despite the lack of evidence, there was still a good amount of people who believed Kona was Landon's daughter. If she soiled her name, then she soiled Landon's name. She continued to look out for Oliver's car. She was surprised he hadn't been chewed her out yet. She was apprehensive only of his questions. How would she tell him that it was her father who was corrupting NYPD to clear her name, when her father was supposed to be dead?
